"You came. Thank you."

- Hawkite

Hawkite is a gigantic, terrifying bird Beast of Gwildor. The Beast's main duty is protecting the crops and farmland of Gwildor safe to prevent famine. The Beast's body is akin to a buzzard or hawk, but her head is said to be more similar to that of a vulture. The Arrow of the Air is extremely agile in the air, able to outmaneuver any other airborne entity or contraption. Hawkite has the ability to hypnotise enemies and prey into remaining still while she attacks if they make eye contact with her. Her large wings are capable of creating gale force winds to destroy buildings and war machines, as well as keep enemies at bay. The feathers of Hawkite are rainbow colored. Due to her protection of Gwildor, she is known by some as the Shadow of Freedom, however when she fell under the control of Velmal, this was changed to the Shadow of Death to reflect the destruction she revelled in while under the dark wizard, gaining a psychopathic streak when influenced by the evil magic-user. She was originally going to be called "The Sky Lord".

Velmal's first attack[]

The first centuries of Hawkite's protection did not contain any notable clashes or attacks. The first major issue Hawkite was involved in was the first attack by the dark wizard Velmal. The Beast and the other Good Beasts of Gwildor were either deceived into assisting Velmal or poisoned with the wizard's mind controlling venom, and Hawkite and the other five assisted Velmal in taking power. Upon discovering the situation in Gwildor, Avantia sent Taladon to restore the control of the Gwildorian rulers and capture Velmal. As part of this mission, Taladon and Hawkite clashed. The Avantian Master of the Beasts was victorious, and Hawkite was released from Velmal's influence, returning to her main duties as Taladon went on to defeat the other Beasts and capture Velmal.

Shade of Death[]

After freeing himself from the dungeons of Jengtor, Velmal set out to take power again. He poisoned all six of the Good Beasts of Gwildor, dealing Hawkite a poisoned wound on the underside of her wing, and ordered them to begin breaking the will of the kingdom by causing havoc. As the majority of Gwildor was sustained by the crops of the farmland in central Gwildor, the territory Hawkite protected, Velmal had the Arrow of the Air to begin destroying the crops in order to plunge Gwildor into famine. The Beast obeyed, creating a powerful wind that stripped the land of its crops, leaving little ways to secure food for the people. The Beast occasionally travelled to other parts of the kingdom to destroy the more limited farmland in other territories.

A farmer and his son, Harvin, were investigating their wheat harvest, which was destroyed in the night, when Hawkite swooped over the field, her shadow bringing them to their knees in fear. The Beast screamed in joy upon seeing prey, navigated down to the edge of the field, and began to whip up powerful gusts of wind. The wind destroyed what little remained of the crops, and while Harvin was able to keep hold of a fence post, his father was unable to maintain his grip on his son's arm and was thrown across the field, hitting a tree and killing him instantly. With her duty done, the Beast departed.

After finding Freya's ring in the lake of a farmland village, the Avantians set out to find Hawkite and save her from Velmal's control. Tom spotted her on the ground in the destroyed fields around the village, initially mistaking her for a rock until she moved, feasting on prey. The corrupted Beast screeched out and began creating powerful winds, nearly knocking Tom and Elenna to the ground without even spotting them. Elenna agreed to act as bait, approaching the Beast. Hawkite finished her meal, and leisurely hopped away over the crest of the field and out of view. Elenna removed her bow and arrows to appear as a more tempting bait, however she hadn't noticed the Beast had taken to the air, rushing over her. She grabbed Elenna, lifted her into the air, and dropped her, toying with her prey. The two locked eyes, with the archer falling under the Arrow of the Air's hypnotic power and remaining still as the Beast swept over her. As Tom rushed towards Elenna to help her, he spotted the poison feathers on the underside of her wing. Hawkite tucked in her wings and dove at the prone Avantian, who was saved by Tom pushing her out of range, but the warrior was left unable to draw his sword because of the swelling caused by the poisoned bruise dealt by Krabb. As the Beast bore down on him, Tom painfully drew his sword, but as Hawkite drew close to Elenna, she pulled away and swung back up in the air, revealing she was still playing and simply trying to panic her foes. The Arrow of the Air dived again, swooping up before Tom's blade could get in range, shrugging off Elenna's arrows as they bounced off her wings. Hawkite dived again, now at Tom, who ducked to the ground, but wasn't quick enough to dodge her wing striking her across the back, doing little harm, but shattering his spirit. Recognising he had no way to attack Hawkite while he was in her sight, he slipped on Freya's ring, turning invisible as she dived again, causing her to bank up and screech in confusion as she lost her prey. Confused, the corrupted Beast landed close to Tom, who approached her, but the magic of the ring faded as he did so, leaving him visible to be spotted by the Beast. She easily saw him, struck with her head as Tom moved back, and threw him away with wind. She chased Tom through the ruined corn until the magic returned, losing Tom again, and taking to the sky to find him. When Tom reappeared, Hawkite swooped at the fleeing warrior, but missed as he dropped to the ground while turning invisible, the Beast simply swooping over him. Elenna fired at the Beast, however Tom stumbled and fell, giving the Beast the chance to attack the vulnerable Avantian. Desperate, Tom leapt at the Beast as she was almost upon him, clinging to the poisoned feathers. Hawkite howled in pain as Tom pulled on the feathers and tried to grab him with her beak, but was unable to. Tom pulled the feathers free, using his shield to glide to the ground as the Beast was freed. Hawkite spun joyfully in the air as she regained control before flying away to resume her duties. With the Arrow of the Air freed, the destroyed crops magically regenerated, Harvin's father was revived, and the crop's return ended the famine.

Siege of Gwildor[]

Please come to Brazil

Hawkite fleeing as the Gwildorians arrived to kill her.

When Freya was poisoned by Emperor Jeng, Hawkite and the other Gwildorian Beasts fell ill due to their connection with her. Upon turning Ronak into the Toxic Terror, Kensa made a prediction: she believed that the people of Guran and Hintor would think a Beast had taken Ronak and since the only local Beast was Hawkite, they would hunt her down to kill her in vengeance, finding easy success due to the Arrow of the Air's condition. To help this, she scattered wool from Ronak's fleece around the cave mouth where Hawkite made her nest. When Tom and Elenna appeared before them, the appearance of Avantia's Master of the Beasts made them believe a Beast was active, coming to the conclusion Hawkite was to blame, disregarding the opinion of the Avantians that there was a new Beast. The Avantians reached the giant bird's cave first, where they found the extremely ill Hawkite lying on the cavern floor. Hawkite thanked them for coming, however the Gwildorians soon arrived. With the danger evident, the Arrow of the Air used the last of her strength to take to the air, swooping over the Gwildorians and into the sky. She recovered elsewhere, waiting for Freya to be cured.

After Freya was cured, Hawkite and four of the other Gwildorian Beasts (Krabb couldn't go inland due to being an aquatic Beast) fought in the Battle of Jengtor, answering Freya's call to battle. As some of the Pirates of Makai fled from Rokk into an alley, Hawkite descended, blocking them from fleeing past her and keeping them there for the rest of the Battle of Jengtor until they were taken into custody by the Gwildorian army.
