"Her name is Spiros the phoenix. If anyone can help you find where Malvel has taken Tom's aunt and uncle, it is Spiros. She is blessed with the power of All-Sight - magic even I do not possess. It allows her to see into the far reaches of Avantia and beyond. Nothing is hidden from her."

- Aduro on the subject of Spiros

Spiros is the seventh Beast of Avantia. She is a large golden phoenix Beast who guarded the skies of Avantia. The Beast possesses a powerful ability referred to as All-Sight, that allows her to see anything within the kingdom and beyond, regardless of how well hidden it is. The Beast is surrounded by golden and emerald light, either a product of her feathers or her spectral status. As a ghost, Spiros couldn't interact with any physical objects, making her unable to fulfil her role within the kingdom, and as such went into hiding until the six other Good Beasts of Avantia united to call for her. After regaining her body in battle, Spiros presumably retook her mantle as protector of the skies. The Ghost Phoenix is the only cover Beast in the series not to fight the Avantians, acting solely as an ally.

Birth and Separation of Soul and Body[]

According to Aduro, Spiros wasn't born as with most Beasts, but created specifically for the role of protecting Avantia's skies from external threats. Whether this is true cannot be validated, as Aduro's sources on the Beast do contain notable errors which Aduro passes on, such as the Beast being the youngest of the seven Beasts of Avantia, when in reality according to their age stats, Ferno, Sepron, Arcta, and Nanook are younger than her. The Beast performed her role incredibly well, using her All-Sight to watch all of the kingdom. The Beast drew the attention and interest of the evil wizard Malvel. Whether Malvel had been banished from Avantia at this point or still served as Aduro's apprentice or not is unknown, but his actions to the Beast may have ended up being the reason he was banished in the first place and for his descent into darkness. The wizard cast a spell on the Good Beast, separating Spiros's soul and body. The soul of the phoenix retained the mind and will of the Beast, and was recognised as Spiros herself. However, she was unable to perform her tasks without physical form, and as such chose to hide herself away, leaving Avantia with one less defender. Instead of becoming inanimate, the body of the now Ghost Phoenix developed its own mind and personality, however without the spirit of Spiros and lacking the memories and noble intentions they brought with them, the body became evil and corrupt, its feathers darkening and emitting a smell of rot. The body was deemed a new Evil Beast under the name of Nawdren, who also went into hiding.

Spiros the Ghost Phoenix[]

Years later, Malvel would find himself on the losing end on a series of clashes against Avantia, being thwarted by the new champions of the kingdom, Tom and Elenna. Hoping to force a surrender and crush his foe's morale, he disguised himself as a traveller and passed through Tom's home village of Errinel. He was offered a place to stay by Tom's Uncle Henry and Aunt Maria, and chose to kidnap them in the night. He hid them in a dungeon deep below ground, completely concealed. Malvel reached out to Nawdren, who was seemingly loyal to him due to the wizard's acts being the reason Nawdren was given independence from Spiros in the first place, and had them protect the dungeon, placing the Black Phoenix under his servant and apprentice Sethrina.

Unable to find Henry and Maria, Aduro suggested Tom and Elenna try and locate Spiros, whose gift of All-Sight would be able to locate where Malvel was keeping them, showing them a vision of the Beast and explaining her past. After the six Beasts of Avantia were united at the Western Ocean by Tom holding his shield and the tokens contained towards the setting sun, Spiros sensed the call and travelled to the shoreline. She descended towards the coast, dropping into view and landing, indicating the Avantians could follow. They followed the Ghost Phoenix on the back of Epos as the seventh Beast guided them north to the Icy Plains. Detecting the location had been discovered, Nawdren and Sethrina intercepted the two Beasts and the Avantians, Nawdren and Epos duelling while Tom and Sethrina exchanged sword blows. Unable to aid in spectral form, Spiros kept her distance from the battle in case Nawdren was able to harm her even when incorporeal. Following Nawdren's withdrawal, the Good Beast returned to her fellow phoenix's side before using her All-Sight to locate Elenna in the snow, who had fallen from Epos's back in battle. She landed silently and remained camped until the Avantians had recovered enough to take to the skies again. She guided them until they reached the dungeon, passing straight through the ice sheet where Epos needed to break through, revealing the dungeons below. She guided the group further under ground, using her all-sight to navigate the labyrinth until they reached the holding cell. She then rested as Tom reunited with his aunt and uncle. The Beast screeched out a warning when Sethrina and Nawdren returned, where the Flame Bird and Black Phoenix engaged once more. When Tom slashed Nawdren's wing, Spiros darted forwards to try and enter the wound to reclaim her body, however her foe's lithe movements kept the Ghost Phoenix from getting close enough to do so. After Sethrina was knocked out, Nawdren was unable to fight off the assault and after suffering numerous injuries, Spiros glided towards her, colours growing dimmer as she approached and entered the wounds. Nawdren fell from the skies as the Ghost Phoenix regained control. The ashen colours of the Black Phoenix were soon replaced by the golden tinge of the Ghost Phoenix, who soon awoke in full control of her body once again. After Sethrina fled the scene, Tom told Spiros to return home and the Beast took to the skies and soared away, now able to continue her role.
