"Beware Kronus the Clawed Menace! ... You will never leave this place!"

- Sanpao on the subject of Kronus

Kronus the Clawed Menace is a giant vulture Beast possessing red eyes and oily feathers. Kronus' main ability is firing beams from his eyes that are seemingly heat-based, being potent enough to blind those hit by him. The beams are also powerful enough to cut through stone. The Clawed Menace is able to survive in cold environments. He made a minor cameo alongside Voltrex as one of the ink recreations who guarded Karita's home. His name appears to be based on Cronos, the Titan king and god of time from Greek mythology, likely due to his token allowing the future to be seen.

The Pirate King[]

Kronus was an Evil Beast of an unknown kingdom. When the Pirates of Makai gained access to the power of the Tree of Being with the lone branch they had captured, Sanpao used its power to bring seven powerful entities under his control, one of which was Kronus. The Beast was kept close by when the Pirates of Makai began their attack on Avantia to take the rest of the tree.

Following the defeat of Torno in the Northern Mountains, the Tree of Being warped to the Icy Plains to protect itself. Sanpao sent Kronus to secure the tree due to his superior speed compared to the ship. As he sought for the Tree of Being, Kronus found a caravan of a tribe taking goods north to trade. The Clawed Menace was detected by many of the moose pulling the caravan, who became visibly frightened, but the tribe were unable to deduce why. The Clawed Menace descended from the sky, drawing screams of terror from the traders as he landed on a caravan and tipped it over, throwing the occupants out into the snow. Kronus began to tear at the caravan he had toppled before rising into the air again and swooped to grab a man with his beak, shaking him and throwing him to the ground, leaving him seemingly dead on impact. Noticing one boy, Abel, fleeing, the Beast pursued him by hovering over him and crying out, making his prey fall to the ground. Kronus struck Abel's eyes with his beams, instantly blinding him, then leaving him. The Beast returned to attack and kill the tribe, but did not notice Abel blindly crawling into a wagon before he turned it over. With the entire tribe either dead or having fled, Kronus continued on his search for the Tree of Being.

Lappet-Faced

Kronus fighting Tom and Elenna in the cave.

Having clashed against Tom and Elenna in each location where the Tree of Being emerged, Sanpao called Kronus back to him to try and finish them off. Using the White Jewel to split his shadow from himself, the Pirate King's shadow lured the pair deep into an ice cave. As the Avantians entered a circular cavern and Sanpao's shadow vanished, Kronus entered the cavern with a screech. Swooping through the archway, he screeched again, blocking the only way out. The Beast flew overhead, allowing the scent of carrion to drift down to his foes and fired his eye beams, which struck Tom's shield and bounced back, striking the wall and partially melting it while throwing out splinters of ice. Elenna fired an arrow at the Beast's eyes, however Kronus dodged by jerking his neck and sprang forward, enraged. Tom smashed the Beast's beak with his shield and stabbed at his body, however Kronus turned his neck and grabbed the sword in his beak, wrestling for the blade with Tom. Elenna tried to fire again, but the Clawed Menace lashed out his talons, forcing Tom to crash into the archer to dodge, and the arrow barely missed his eye as it sliced through a tuft of feathers on his head. Screeching with fury, the Evil Beast backed away, retreating with a final squawk. As he fled, he turned back as he left the cavern and fired his beams into the archway, bringing down chunks of ice that completely blocked the way out. Screeching with triumph, Kronus left, believing his enemies would die in the cave.

Sanpao and his pirates later fought Tom, Elenna, and Nanook on a frozen lake that the Tree of Being had emerged on. During the battle, the Pirate King summoned Kronus to him, who swept high above the lake and dived down at Elenna. Thanks to Tom yelling out a warning, the archer was able to notice the Beast and rolled down onto the ice, barely avoiding the Clawed Menace's talons. Screeching with frustration, the Beast began to wheel around and was shot in the wing as he turned, making him shriek in pain. Rising into the air before Elenna, he turned to reach the arrow and bit at it. As Tom rushed to the Tree to stop it from being cut down, Kronus pursued him, plummeting down towards it with a screech and extending his talons. Nanook reached up to snatch the Evil Beast from the air as he hovered over her head, who sank his talons into the stretching arms, drawing blood. The Clawed Menace stretched his neck down to peck at the Snow Monster's face while he began crushing his foe's arms. Kronus tried to force Nanook's head up so they could lock eyes and the Evil Beast could use his beams to blind her, however the Snow Monster freed an arm and grabbed the Clawed Menace's throat, who shrieked and backed away, freeing himself and flying out of his foe's range. Nanook grabbed Kronus's throat again, twisting his head upwards to force his eyes away. The Clawed Menace's struggle overbalanced Nanook, and the two Beasts crashed down onto the ice together, the impact breaking much of it on the lake's surface. As they struggled to their feet, Nanook again grabbed the Evil Beast's throat, dashing him onto the ice. Kronus quickly recovered and lashed out with his talons, pulling the Snow Monster down once more. The Good Beast aimed a punch at Kronus's head, striking it and badly disorientating and confusing the Evil Beast, who rose up and began firing wildly, unable to make out his foes. The Clawed Menace spotted his own reflection on the ice and began to fire at it furiously, assuming it was an enemy. Kronus was able to make out Tom and Elenna as the Tree of Being warped away, plummeting towards them and preparing to fire his eye beams. As the Clawed Menace drew close, Tom leapt aside, revealing the Beast's reflection to him. Assuming it was his foes again, Kronus fired directly at it, which broke up the ice he struck and caused him to plunge into the lake below, the water bubbling as the Beast drowned in the icy water and succumbed to the wounds sustained from Nanook and smashing into the ice.
